What Happens During a Dental Visit?
A full examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, looking for signs of disease or other problems. The goal is to maintain your good oral health and to prevent problems from becoming serious and more expensive, by identifying and treating them as soon as possible.
A thorough cleaning
either from your dentist or a dental hygienist. Using special instruments, they remove built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease, cavities, bad breath and other problems. Teeth will also be polished with fluoride products to protect them and remove superficial stains. |
X-Rays
could be recommended depending on your age, risks of disease and symptoms. Radiographs can diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed, such as damage to jawbones, impacted teeth, abscesses, cysts or tumors, and decay between the teeth.
Our modern dental office uses state of the art machines and technology to give virtually no exposure; in addition we always protect the patient with a lead apron.
And, if you are pregnant, inform your dentist, as X-rays should only be taken in emergency situations.
Sometimes we ask for a Panoramic X-ray, or Panorex, that provides, in a single a complete view of your upper and lower jaw and the relationship with the teeth.
